A: Ventrilo and TeamSpeak do not host their own servers so uptime and service can be varied and spotty. Their software consequently lack many modern features such as an SDK or social network integration.

Our pricing is also rather aggressive in comparison. With imVOX you can chat with up to 30 people on a server for free.

imVOX is different because we operate our own servers and provide our own customer service, 24/7. Plus, we are able to quickly innovate on our code and provide killer new features for better group management, voice fonts, and higher voice quality.

A: Go over to the download page and download the client. Register for a (free) account in-client and you're in!

A: We support Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7. You need to have Microsoft's .NET 2.0 SP 2 installed (highly likely it already is) to run imVOX.

imVOX has far lower system requirements than almost any game that you'll be playing and takes a very minimal amount of memory and processor time. The bigger the system, the lower the impact you'll see. Users should have at least a Pentium III 850mhz and 512mb RAM best experience the software.

Some Windows firewall software may prompt you about opening up various ports when you run the client. You will need to approve these in order for the software to function.

A: We have designed imVOX to use very little bandwidth and to be very robust so that if you game network traffic takes priority, then the voice will still come through perfectly.

We've found that imVOX takes between 1-8kB/sec depending on your network, which is very reasonable on modern broadband connections.

A: A Mac version is currently in the works with plans to support Snow Leopard. We hope to have something in a few weeks.

Unfortunately, a Linux client is not currently planned but not entirely out of the question since it is written in .NET/Mono. If we see a sufficient demand in the future for a Linux client it will be put into consideration, but historically the multiplayer gaming community for Linux is rather small and fragmented.

A: You get an account that can connect up to 30 users for free.

If you need to connect more than 30 users or create additional servers, then you will need our Pro account, which is $24.99/year and allows for the creation of up to 10 servers with up to 250 people connected across them total.

A: Free accounts can create one server, and have up to 30 people connected at once on the server. You don't have to keep your computer on to keep the server alive either. We take care of all of the server hosting.

A: Have everyone in your guild or clan sign up for imVOX! Overall the switch should be fairly painless.

A: We are working hard on this for you, including some special code for games like World of Warcraft.

A: Using a dedicated microphone, potentially in form of a headset, can make the gaming situation better for everyone. For those of you playing on laptops, no longer will your teammates hear the rush of your laptop's fan and hard drive, or the clicking of your keys.

Using one is not required and any microphone from the laptop's internal mic to a high quality studio microphone should work just fine.

A: You should be able to. Our team really enjoy using imVOX for top games like World of Warcraft and Quake Live.
